AOJ Featured in NEXT STORIES: Evolving Airsoft into Team-Based Entertainment

Airsoft Online Japan was recently featured in NEXT STORIES in an article titled “Toward a Team that Creates Experiences: AOJ’s Challenge to Evolve Airsoft.”

The article introduces AOJ’s approach to airsoft as more than a simple shooting game. It highlights our focus on teamwork, mission design, story-driven objectives, custom-built game devices, and the sense of achievement that comes from players working together to complete a challenge.

The feature also introduces Black, one of AOJ’s core leaders, who brings his background in game design into the way our events are structured. His role focuses on designing player experiences: how tension builds, how objectives flow, how beginners and experienced players can both contribute, and how each game can create memorable moments for the whole team.

Alongside Black’s game design work, AOJ is supported by organisers, support members, and a wider player community who each bring something different to the field. From custom props and objective devices to tactical game design and bilingual event support, our goal is to create events that feel immersive, accessible, and memorable.

The article also discusses AOJ’s wider vision: treating airsoft as a team-based activity, similar to sport, where people from different backgrounds can meet, cooperate, move, think, and enjoy a shared experience together.

We are grateful to NEXT STORIES for introducing AOJ, Black’s role in our game design, and our ongoing efforts to develop a new style of airsoft event in Japan.
